This post is for those who have no or little success on growing rose cutting in potting soil due to stem rot and other problems.
In this post I will show you how you can root your rose plant cuttings in water. Its very easy and gives you desired results.
Steps for propagating/rooting rose cuttings in water:
- Select a softwood cutting that has at least 4 to 6 buds or nodes (area where shoots emerge).
- Using a cutter or blade make a sharp cut at a 45 degree angle just below last node to facilitate root growth.
- Remove leaves from lower side of stem and flowers buds if any.
- Fill a jar with water and put cutting in water.
- place the jar in a location where it gets bright indirect sunlight.
- After 15-20 days or 1 month you will see callus layer will start forming at bottom of stem. this is a sure sign that roots will soon emerge.
- Once callus has formed it means stem is healed, you can keep it in water or move to soil or cocopeat.
- After a month or 2 roots will emerge and will be clearly visible.
- Now you can move your newly rooted cutting to pot with potting soil.
